First Communion Class
Children Austin Campus

While many families will choose to bring their child at a traditional age, such as first grade or fifth grade, it is perfectly appropriate to begin sharing communion at the altar with your child as soon as they are ready to receive it. Children as young as toddlers can be taught to extend their hands and receive the wafer or piece of bread. We offer annual classes to give children an age-appropriate understanding of Holy Communion, to practice the mechanics of communion, and to instruct parents in the theology of communion as a table of God’s grace where all are welcome. Many families will choose to mark a first communion with their child(ren) after such classes. Families who wish to begin communing their child at other times of year are encouraged to speak with the pastor to make arrangements.
