“For I was hungry and you gave me food...” - Matthew 25:35 (NRSV)
Epiphany has taken an active role in ministry with Family Promise of Greene County, formerly the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), a nonprofit organization working with congregations across the country to help displaced families due to uncontrolled circumstances. Their mission is to provide help, hope, and a safe haven for guests while they seek permanent employment and affordable housing. Epiphany rotates with other congregations one week at a time to provide meals, shelter, and God’s love to them.
Family Promise works to help families find permanent housing, employment, and parenting classes. Over 90 percent of the families are placed in their own homes and 80 percent are placed in new jobs.
Epiphany’s next week of service to prepare meals for Family Promise is March 16-22. Please consider preparing a meal for temporarily displaced families in transition.
This is a great way for small groups to serve. As a matter of fact, Epiphany youth chose this opportunity as one of their fall service projects! Join our youth in serving our ministry partner, Family Promise.
Examples of groups of people who could provide a meal together:
- friends
- families
- small groups
- ministry groups
The guests are used to simple meals. Examples of simple meals include grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, and pizza.
- Each meal needs to have meat, a vegetable, and dessert.
- We ask that you try not to duplicate meals. For example, avoid two Italian pasta dishes in the same week.
- Disposable aluminum containers are recommended for the meals.
- You do not need to take any tableware, condiments, or beverages, as these are already provided.
To let people know what meals are planned by others, this page will be updated as soon as possible during church office hours after a meal sign-up occurs. Coordinator Rose Wasky will send out an email a week in advance to let you know how many people there will be at the Schneider House of Hope to cook for (typically between 12-22 total people) with a reminder of your chosen date.
The meal will need to arrive at the Schneider House of Hope in Xenia by 5 p.m. A Family Promise point of contact will help you get food into the house. We typically encourage people delivering meals to stay and visit with the house guests, but it is not required.
